Therapy and The God Design – Part 3 of 3

By Ivory Bustin, MA, Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor

This is Part 3 of a three-part series. Read Part 1 and Part 2.

Proverbs 4:22 states that the words of Yahweh are healing to the flesh (referring to living things). Words are used to communicate, express, build up, and tear down. When we receive words of life, instruction, direction, and correction that align with the heart of Yahweh, they are powerful to tear down old systems that have formed in our thoughts and emotions by lived experiences and generational inheritances, thus creating opportunities to build a healthier eternal perspective instead. How then, do we identify the psychological structures that do not allow our Divine design to flourish?

Enter the Logos. The Word of God (logos in Greek) pierces to the division of soul and spirit (Hebrews 4:12). The Logos is the Person of Christ, and here, soul is the Greek word psyche: sound familiar? The Logos is the One that separates what is of the spirit and of the soul, bringing the government of Order to one’s being by aligning the soul under the authority of one’s spirit into proper Divine alignment. Words of Truth must come to illuminate our minds and emotions to the faulty patterns which don’t belong there, empowering us to frame the right thought and emotional architecture to propel us into the proper functioning of our true identity.

As He is, so are we (1 John 4:17), and He is The Word (John 1:1), therefore we are a word proceeding from the Mouth of Yahweh through Christ (Isaiah 55:11). We are born of the Life-Giving Spirit, and who we each are in our unique Christ identity carries the blueprint to manifest His glory and Truth on the earth through our lives. When we partner with this God-given potential, we allow the attributes of Yahweh’s unique expression through us to flow to the world around us, bringing Life and Light to those that are captive and oppressed. We all have different assignments, and as the Body of Christ, we need each others’ unique assignments to help one another with the things in which we aren’t individually graced.

Therapists have been trained, equipped, and even graced by God to be attuned and perceptive to the subtleties of the psychological associations of human thought, emotional expression, and behavioral functioning. While not every therapist professes Christ as their Lord, there is an honor that we give to others in their professions (i.e. doctors, musicians, athletes), and even recognize the natural God-given talent they possess even when that talent is not used for His glory. However, when a therapist is a yielded skilled weapon in the hands of the Logos, the grace through them that comes from union with Christ has the power to profoundly confront the dis-order of the soul, helping clients find Order and break free from what holds them back from an abundant life. Therapy rooted in a Christ centered approach brings words to heal the soul.

Yahweh is brooding over the waters within us, but the chaos cannot hear Him. Let the Light of His Logos bring Peace that forms your true identity from the darkness of the deep (Genesis 1:2).
